Steven Adams, age 46 of North Branch, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at McLaren Lapeer Region. Steven was born on December 19, 1967 at Lapeer, Michigan, the son of Harold and Mary Jane “Cookie” (Thompson) Adams. Steven graduated from Lapeer West Intermediate School. He enjoyed working at the local tire shop, Davis Tires, changing tires. He enjoyed building bird houses, playing pool, working on electronics, listening to music, and he enjoyed the outdoors, and riding his ATV.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Harold and Cookie Adams; sister, Christine (Jim) Bologna of Oklahoma; brothers, Troy (Cindy) Adams of Attica; and Asa (Julia) Adams of Indiana; 9 nieces and nephews, and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents, Asa and Blanche Thompson and Stephen and Katherine Adams.

Eugene Weingartz age 89, lifelong resident of North Branch, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. Eugene was born on May 3, 1924 in North Branch, Michigan, the son of Michael and Mary (Robinet) Weingartz.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. On May 18, 1957 he married Maureen Ostrander in Brookyn. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Eugene retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, carpentry. He built his home and a home for his son Steve. He was very handy at fixing things for his family and friends on the farm.

Left to cherish his memory are; wife Maureen of North Branch, daughter: Denise (Gary) Ankley of Minnesota; sons: Jeff (Pam) Weingartz of Lapeer, Tim (Norma) Weingartz of Sterling Heights, and Steve (Renee) Weingartz of North Branch, sisters: Lucille Spicher of Okemos, Ruth Ann (John) Nellenbach of North Branch, and sisters-in-law: Orva Weingartz, and Betty Weingartz, both of North Branch, brother: Bernard (Rose) Weingartz of Florida, and brother-in-law: Francis Nellenbach of North Branch, 9 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, children: Charles and Ceclia, sisters: Doris Nellenbach, and Evangeline Doneth, brothers: George and Joseph Weingartz.

  Marilyn Hutchinson, age 83 a life long resident of North Branch passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Pinecrest Estates in Mayville, MI.  Marilyn was born on July 19, 1930, the daughter of Bruce and Mary (Martin) Clothier.  On August 20, 1949 she married Clare “Mike” Hutchinson at the North Branch United Methodist Church. Marilyn was a member of the Silverwood United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ for the church services.  Marilyn enjoyed china painting, working on ceramics, and knitting.  She was also an avid reader.  When Mike was living they enjoyed square dancing and playing golf.

Marilyn is survived by her sons; Ronald (Tammy) Hutchinson of North Branch, and Thomas (Charlene) Hutchinson of PA.; grandchildren; Mitchell Hutchinson, Mark (Rose) Hutchinson, Michael (Janelle)Hutchinson, Michelle (Kenn) Orndorff, and Melissa (Craig) Gasssert, and  great-grandchildren; Keith, Nikolas, Stephanie, and Bret Hutchinson; Derrick, Cody and Mikayla Orndorff and Logan , Adison, and Jamison Gassert, sister; Ellen Bohnsack of VA., and brother; Norman Clothier of Lapeer. Also, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mike, daughter-in-law Roszella, great-granddaughter Mercedez and sisters; Marjorie and Phyllis; and brother Martin.

  Kristylynne Starr Kendrick, age 30 passed away on Friday, 3/14/14 in McLaren Regional Hospital, Flint MI after a 4 ½ yr battle with breast cancer.

Kristylynne was born in Port Huron, MI on 3/23/1983 in Port Huron, MI to Terrie Kendrick of Mayville and Brian Kendrick of Port Huron.

Kristylynne was a 2001 graduate of Port Huron Northern High School. She was the happiest when spending time with her children.

She is survived by her 3 little angels, Shane Navoni, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Kendrick-Navoni both of Burtchville, and Bethanyrenee Kendrick of MayvilleI. Brothers, Brian & Michael Kendrick, ½ sisters, Jenniferrose & Angelrenee Kendrick, adopted sisters & brothers, Tina Gunther, Rebecca Kendrick, Richard Osborne, Timothy, Daniel & Johnathan Kendrick.  Her mother, father, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins.

She was preceded in death by her adopted father, Steve Kendrick Dec. 2008 & Grandma Rita Kendrick June 2010.

Visitation will be 9 am to 2 pm Friday, 3/21/14 at Blackburn Chapel – Martin Funeral Home, 4106 Huron St., North Branch MI 48461 with services following at 2 pm.

Burial will be in Rich Cemetery, Rich Rd., Mayville MI


  Dan Caldwell, age 56, of North Branch died Wednesday, March 12, 2014.  Dan was born March 13, 1958 in Marlette to the Lloyd and Thelma (Hodges) Caldwell.  Dan graduated from North Branch High School in 1976, he also attended Lapeer County Vocational Tech School.  Dan was a truck driver for many farmers, and different companies hauling products and freight.  He was a Patriot Guard Rider.  Dan enjoyed riding his Harley and spending time with his mother and family. 

Dan is survived by his mother, Thelma Caldwell; fiancé, Shelle Wells; daughters, Melissa (fiancée, Jerome) Collins and Angela and grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Lynn) Gates of North Branch; brother, Bill (Kim) Caldwell of North Branch; and brother-in-law, James Osborne of North Branch; and many friends.  Dan’s nephews and nieces were very important part of his life. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd and sister, Loraine.

Memorials may directed to the family.

The family will be present for visitation on Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 2 to 8 pm, Monday, March 17, 2014 from 12 to 1pm.  The funeral service will be Monday, 1:00pm, all at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, North Branch.  Rev.   Bernard A. Schlaud age 84, a life long resident of North Branch passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his home in the loving care of his family.  Bernard was born on September 29, 1929 in North Branch, Michigan to the late Henry and Leona (Swoish) Schlaud.  Bernard graduated from North Branch High School in 1948.  He married Ellen Nolan on August 23, 1952 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  Bernard was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and SS. Peter and Paul Knights of Columbus Council # 9568.  He retired from the U.S. Postal Office as a letter carrier.  Bernard was also a carpenter, and he greatly enjoyed his woodworking, stone masonry, trapping and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ellen; daughters, MaryAnn ( Gary) Sullivan of Charlotte, Katrina (Skip) Easlick; Patty (Tim) Brusie; sons, Stephen (DeNise) Schlaud; and Gerard (Carrie)  Schlaud all of North Branch; sister, Alvera (Gerald) Houck of Lapeer; 23 grandchildren , and 26 great-grandchildren; many nephews, nieces and cousins. 

At a young age, his brother Francis passed away, leaving 6 young children.  Bernard was honored to be part of the life of his children; Mark, Doug, Chris, Andy, Francine and Johnna.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan; and 4 brothers.

The family will be present for visitation on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 3 to 8 pm, with a scripture service at 7:00 pm. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  On Thursday, March 13, 2014 the Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Richard Treml officiating.  Burial will be SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, North Branch.

  Marie Ann McGlashen, age 69 of North Branch, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Marlette United Residence.  Marie was born on July 7, 1944 in Lapeer, Michigan to the late Clarence and Viola (Parrott) Reynolds.  Marie grew up in the North Branch and Lapeer area, and attended North Branch School.  On June 27, 1964 she married Doyle McGlashen, he died in 2004.  Marie retired from MK Chambers and she also worked at Bryans Market in the bakery making the bread.  She enjoyed playing bingo, baking, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. 

Left to cherish her memory are daughters: Kimberly (Ben) Dice of Sandusky; and Penny (Rick) Payea of Tawas City; sisters: Vicki (Paul) Anderson of Imlay City; Terry (Royce) Thomas of Florida; brothers: Manley (Leila) Reynolds of Lapeer; Glenn Reynolds of Atlanta, MI.; Herb Reynolds of North Branch; and Clarence Reynolds of Lapeer; Grandchildren: D.J. (Nichole) Lamkey; Joshua Lamkey; Kayla Borgen, and Kasey Borgen and Great-Grandson, Brody Lamkey, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers.

  Rodger E. Reinke, age 70, of North Branch, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at McLaren Lapeer Region.  Rodger was born on April 16, 1943 to Lucille (Lewis) Gamm and  the late Edward Reinke.  He grew up in the Alger and Gladwin Area and graduated from West Branch High School in 1961.  On February 27, 1965 he married Marjorie Kartes at St. Joseph in West Branch.  Rodger worked for General Motors for 10 years before he started working for UPS as a delivery man and semi driver in the Lapeer area, retiring in 2001.  He enjoyed stopping at yard sales, going to flea markets, fixing and tinkering with things in his pole barn.  He especially loved to spend time with his family, socializing and helping everyone.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward; step-father, Lawrence Gamm, father-in-law, Steve Kartes; and brother, John Reinke; brothers-in-law,  Jack, Ray, Carl, and Ed.

The family will be present for visitation on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 1 to 5 pm, with the funeral service at 5:00 pm at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  Pastor John Anderson will officiate.  Cremation will take place.

  Velma E. Naracon, age 76, of North Branch, died Friday, March 7, 2014 at McLaren Lapeer Region.  Velma was born on January 19, 1938 to the late Harry and Beaulah (LeFever) Dawson.  Velma grew up in the Romeo area.  She attended Lapeer Apostolic Church.  Velma enjoyed working on crafts, sewing, embroidering, playing the organ, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. 

Left to cherish her memory are; daughter, Sally Naracon of Lapeer; son, Terry Naracon of California; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

  Robert A. Cloutier, Sr., age 77 of North Branch passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at McLaren Lapeer Region. Robert was born December 5, 1936 in Pontiac, MI . He was the son of the late Lloyd and Loma (Putnam) Cloutier.

On March 19, 1960 he married Lou Ann Allen in Caro, MI. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2001. Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Robert was a truck driver for many years.  He enjoyed farming and hauling sugar beets in the fall for the Bednaryczk Farms.  Robert also liked to ride snowmobiles, motorcycles, camping and he loved to spend family time riding his golf cart with the family.

He is survived by daughters: Deborah (Bernie) Milot of Mayville, Renee (Chris) Forbes of North Branch, and Robert Cloutier, Jr. of Marlette; sisters: Lucille Shoemaker of Snover and Pamela (Bruce) McCummons of Brown City; brother: John ( Lisa) Cloutier of Indiana; 9 grandchildren, and  8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lou Ann, brothers: Tom and Dave and sister Nancy.

Family suggests memorials be made to the family.

Family will be present for visitation on Saturday, from 5 to 8 pm, Sunday from 12 to 8 pm and Monday from 10 to 11am.  with the funeral service at 11:00am all at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  Fr. James Arwady will officiate.  Military Honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post #457.

Robert will be laid to rest next to his wife in Dawn Memorial Cemetery in Elba, MI.

  Mina  M. Haggadone, age 75 of Lapeer, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at McLaren Lapeer Region.  Mina was born on January 5, 1939 in North Branch, the daughter of  the late Charles and Florence (Hoffman) Boyle.  Mina was the first baby of the New Year in Lapeer County.  On January 29, 1957 she married Norm Haggadone. 

Mina retired from Ben’s Super Market, and for several years she helped manage a motel up north.

Mina was very family oriented, and spending time with them was her most enjoyable pleasure.  She also enjoyed watching T.V., going to casinos, and playing Bingo.

Mina is survived by her husband: Norm; daughter: Debbie (Bill) Meyer of Lake Orion; sons: Ron (Sally) Haggadone of Dryden; and Craig (Peggy) Haggadone of Columbiaville.

Mina helped raised her two grandsons: Alan and Jason. Jason preceded her in death on June 16, 1997.  She is also survived by grandchildren: Brad, Aaron, Kelly, Austin, Tyler, Danielle, Cody, and Jared; and 5 great-grandchildren; siblings:: Harlene Chambers of North Branch; Lyle Boyle of Davison; Caroline Woodward of Lapeer; Lowell (Sally) Boyle of Tennessee; Earl (Roxanne) Boyle of North Branch; Cecile (Corrine) Boyle of Shelby Twp; and Kelly (Michelle) Boyle of Marlette; Kendra (Russ) Richmond of Kingston; several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mina was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Jason; sisters; Ellen Ann and Helen, brother: Jerome Boyle.

The family will be present for visitation on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 10:00am to 11:00am with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:00am at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Hutchinson officiating. 

  John W. Castle, age 68, of North Branch, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home with his family at his side.  John was born on July 28, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Wells and Mary (Waldon) Castle.  John grew up in North Branch and graduated from North Branch High School in 1963.  John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and the Michigan National Guards.  He was a member of the North Branch American Legion Post #457 and the U.A.W.  John was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers.  He enjoyed hunting, working on word searches, and watching Western Movies on TV.

John is survived by his daughter: Kimberly (Matthew) Earegood of Florida, son: Kevin  (Shannon) Castle of  Kentucky; sisters: JoAnn (Bill) Welke of North Branch and Beth (Randy) Shoemaker of Oklahoma; brothers: Alfred ( Joanne) Castle and David (Duan) Castle both of North Branch; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was preceded by death by his parents, brother Robert, granddaughters, Taylynn and Jennifer.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for their wishes.

Ronald Hutchinson officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post # 457, with the burial to follow at the North Branch Burlington Cemetery. 

John’s last request was for everyone to wear a Detroit Tigers T-shirt to the Funeral Service.

Gary Wright, age 62 of Brown City, died January 16, 2014 at his home. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 10:30 am to noon.  The Funeral Service will be at noon at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow.

 

   Donna Haight, age 63, of Columbiaville, died Sunday, January 12 , 2014 in Marlette, MI.  Donna was born on February 12, 1950 in Caro, Michigan, the daughter of Donald and Audrey (Ballou) McCoon.  Donna grew up in Caro, MI., and graduated from Caro High School in 1969.  She received her Bachelors Degree at Michigan State University.  On July 9, 1977 she married Daniel Haight. 

   Donna enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren.

   Donna is survived by her husband Daniel,  daughters; Cassandra Haight-Miller of Columbiaville, Malissa (Jim) Hidalgo of Texas, Amanda (Nuuese) Passi of Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Jennifer (Tracy) Chase of Lapeer, son, Daniel Andrew (Susan) Haight of Bay City, 8 grandchildren, nephew Scott McCoon, and niece Judy Farr.

   The family will be present for a gathering on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the Memorial Service to follow at 1:00pm. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with Rev.. Ronald  Hutchinson officiating.  Cremation has taken place.

  Dawn Richards, age 61 of North Branch died Monday, January 6, 2014 at home in the arms of her fiancé.  Dawn was born on August 31, 1952 in Highland Park, MI., to Jay and Dorothy (Parshall) Dalton. 

Dawn grew up in Clawson, MI., and graduated from Clawson High School in 1970.

She enjoyed karaoking, watching old movies, dancing, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Dawn is survived by her fiancé Conrad “Chris” Zychski of North Branch, son Robert Stephen (wife Stacey Lyn) Richards of Dryden, sister Cheryl (Wendell) Elliott of Naples, Florida, brother Dan (Lisa) Dalton of New York State, grandchildren; Samantha Ellis, Shayna Rabideau, Shantel Rabideau, Trevor Richards, and Reyah Richards, and many - many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant son Robert Thomas Richards Jr.

The family will be present from visitation on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 2 to 8 PM

and on Friday, January 17, 2014 from noon to 1:00PM.  The Funeral Service will be 1:00PM, Friday, January 17, 2014 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch, MI  Fr. Richard Treml will officiate.  Burial will be in North Branch Burlington Cemetery.                        

Jerome “J.B.” Boyle, age 78, of North Branch, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014. J.B. was born June 28, 1935 in Silverwood, MI. He is the son of the late Charles and Florence (Hoffman) Boyle.  J.B. graduated from North Branch High School in 1954.

J.B. proudly served his country in the United States Army.   J.B. worked at the Washakie Golf & RV Resort in North Branch, MI. for many years, and he was employed at Chaso Royco for 35 years as a machinist.  J.B. was a life long member of the N.R.A., who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snow mobiling, boating and water skiing.

Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice.

J.B. is survived by: his sisters, Harlene Chambers of North Branch, Mina (Norm) Haggadone of Lapeer, Caroline Woodward of Lapeer and Kendra (Russ) Richmond of Kingston; brothers, Lyle Boyle of Davison, Lowell (Sally) Boyle of Tennessee, Earl (Roxanne) Boyle of North Branch, Cecile (Corinne) Boyle of Shelby Township and Kelly (Michelle) Boyle of Marlette; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; and his special fuzzy companion, “Precious”.

J.B. was preceded in death by: his parents, and two sisters, Ellen Ann and Helen.

Mabel Schell  Mabel Schell, age 81, of Fostoria passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Fisher Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center in Mayville, MI. Mabel was born April 28, 1932 in Alpena, Michigan, the daughter of James and Flossie (Forrest) Howay.  On August 19, 1950 she married James Schell at the West Deerfield Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on August 29, 1983.  Mabel was an attendant  nurse at the Oakdale Center.  She was a member of the Fostoria United Methodist Church.  Mabel enjoyed crocheting, collecting tea pots, and working on word search.

   She is survived by daughters; Flossie Jankowske of North Branch, Janet (Duane) Oliver of Otter Lake, and Susan (Steve) Kreger of Fostoria, son Jim (Linda) Schell of Fostoria; brother William Howayof Fostoria, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James and 4 sisters.

Alan Lockwood, Sr., age 66 of Columbiaville died December 7, 2013 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Alan was born February 24, 1947, the son of the late Clement and Mildred (Thomas) Lockwood. Alan grew up in the North Branch area and graduated from North Branch High School in 1965. On December 11, 1965 Alan married Mary Ann Horecki in Marlette. After 46 years of marriage, Mary Ann preceded Alan in death in 2012. Alan was a skilled die maker for General Motors; retiring in 1997. Alan enjoyed gardening, watching sports and spending time with his family.

Alan is survived by: his children, Tom (Beth) Lockwood, Jr. of Lapeer, Jenette (Daniel) Smith of Lapeer and Angela LaSota of Clio; 7 grandchildren;  and 1 great-grandchild.   Alan was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Ann in 2012.

Alan and Mary Ann will be buried together in Westlawn Cemetery in North Branch, MI.

 

Joan S. Hagemeister, age 91 of North Branch, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Caro Community Hospital.  Joan was born August 11, 1922 to Henry and Alvera (Grobbel) Ruhlman.  Joan married Art Lobstein  on November 24, 1945, he preceded her in death in 1964, then she married Pete Hagemeister  on February 16, 1968, he preceded her in death on April 11, 1973. 

Joan was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, North Branch Historical Society, volunteered at the North Branch Thrift Shop.  Joan enjoyed playing cards, and baking cookies. 

Joan is survived by her sons; Richard (Pam) Lobstein  of Sterling Heights, and Larry Lobstein of Richland, sisters; Lucille Schank, Irene (Joe) Vons, Catherine Kreiner, Mary (Jack) Bentz, Dolores (Seth) Griffin, and Gertrude (Vernon) Steele, brothers; Tom (Leona) Ruhlman, and Joe “Pat” (Joanne) Ruhlman, many cousins, nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Monica; and brothers, Tony and Bob.

   Joan K. Simmons, age 81 of North Branch died Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Marlette Hospice Residence.  Joan was born on May 22, 1932 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Keith and Marie (Wiegel) Laur.  Joan grew up in the Flint and North Branch areas, and graduated from North Branch High School in 1950.  She married John “Jack” Simmons on February 3, 1951 at the North Branch United Methodist Church.  She was a member of the North Branch United Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S. and the U.M.W.  Joan was an active farmwife, housewife, Sunday School Teacher and 4-H leader. Joan was a very hard worker, helping her husband on the family farm.  She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, knitting, painting, basket weaving, golfing, but most important she loved to spend time with family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all.

Joan is survived by daughter, Jill Simmons her husband, David Dik of New Jersey, sons; Jim (Mindy)  of Traverse City, John (Sherry) of North Branch, and George (Mona) of  New Mexico, sister Janet Surface of Flushing, grandchildren;  Kristina, Asa (Alison), Zack, Effie, Rose, August (Heather), Stacey, John (Boyeon), Curtis, James and Andrew, great-grandchildren; Skyler, Anita, Sean, Ryu, and Isabel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, and sister Monica.

The family will be present for visitation on  Thursday, from 3 to 8 pm and Friday from 9 to 11am at the North Branch United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ronald Hutchinson officiating.  Cremation has taken place, and she will be buried beside her husband Jack at Maple Grove Cemetery, North Branch.

  Leland “Lee” McDowell, age 81, of Fostoria passed away November 25, 2013 at his home. Lee was born May 13, 1932 in Deerfield Township, MI.  He was the son of the late William and Bertha (Hosler) McDowell. Lee grew up in Fostoria and graduated from North Branch in 1950. Lee proudly served his country in the United States Army. On June 28, 1952, Lee married Nana Pierson in Columbiaville, MI . Lee worked as a Realtor for 15 years, was an automotive mechanic for many years, worked for Lapeer County CETA for 5 years and was also a farmer. Lee attended Country Christian Church.

Lee was a proud member of the North Branch American Legion Post #457, the Otter Lake V.F.W. Post #2409, President of the North Branch Athletic Boosters, Cub Master for Sons, and loved being a coach for baseball leagues.

Lee is survived by: his loving wife: Nana of Fostoria; daughters: Roxanne Gobbi of Lapeer, Rhonda (Philip) Braidwood of Millington; sons: Rick (Martha) McDowell of North Branch, Randy McDowell of Davison, and Rod (Tracey) McDowell of Davison; sisters: Marion Mitchell of Burton and Dorothy Houck of Frankenmuth; brother: Carl (Judy) McDowell of Fostoria; 20 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Richard Fosdick and son-in-law, Bob Gobbi.

David Sebert age 49, of North Branch, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at home in the loving care of his family. David was born August 20. 1964 in Flint, Mi., the son of Bernard and Betty (Huntton) Sebert. David attended Lakeville Schools.  He enjoyed mud bogging, drag strip racing, and hunting.

David is survived by his mother Betty Hamilton of Almont, sister Joyce LaLonde of North Branch, brothers; Bernie (Mary Lee) of Lapeer, LaVerne (Rhonda) of Otter Lake, and Michael (Glenda) of Davison, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Cremation has taken place.

  Joe Allen Abernathy, age 70, of North Branch, formerly of Alabama, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 with his loving family by his side. Joe was born on March 11, 1943 in Limestone County, AL. He is the son of the late James and Geneva (Pepper) Abernathy. Joe grew up and attended school in Limestone County, AL. On February 24, 1967, he married Twylha Prince in Commerce Township, MI.

Joe worked as a Booth Cleaner for General Motors, where he retired from after 30 years of service. Joe attended the North Goodland Baptist Church and formerly the Lindsay Lane Baptist Church in Athens, AL. Joe enjoyed golfing and gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Joe is survived by: his wife, Twylha of North Branch; son, Joe Abernathy of St. Charles, MI; daughter, Deanna (Phillip) Moore of North Branch; grandchildren, Autumn, Kaitlyn, Faith and Spencer; sisters, Margie Moreno of Irondale, AL, Peggy (Gene) Garland of Athens, AL, Sheila (Rick) Strain of Athens, AL, Darlene (Larry) Morris of Waterford, and Paulette (Matt) McDowell of Pontiac; brothers, Wayne (Alice) Abernathy of Mansfield, OH, Jack (Betty) Abernathy of Harvest, AL, Douglas (Karen) Abernathy of Harvest, AL, Scott (Colleen) Abernathy of Pontiac, and Andy Abernathy of Pontiac; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

 Fearson James Fearson, Jr., age 71 of Lake Orion, MI, formerly of Hillman, MI, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at Ferguson Convalescent Home in Lapeer. James was born March 10, 1942 in Lansing, MI., the son of the late James Sr. and Josephine (Mendle) Fearson.  On June 24, 1961 James married Barbara Perigo in Burton, MI.  She preceded him in death in 2005.  James retired from GM after 30 years of service.  He was a member of Charity Baptist Church of Oxford, and he was a  member of the Knights of the Pythias and the Northern MI. Gospel Music Association.  James enjoyed bowling, collecting eagles, watching movies, and he was an avid comic book collector.

James is survived by: his daughter,  Ila Collier of Kentucky, sons;  James (Tina) Fearson III of Pontiac, George (Cynthia) Fearson of Waterford, Michael (Tracy) Fearson of Lapeer, and William (Jylnelle) Fearson of Metamora, sisters; Joyce Fearson and JoAnn Tucker, brothers; Robert, David, Jan Fearson, 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and cousins.

James is preceded in death by: his parents, wife, Barbara, brothers; John and George Lee.

   Theresa Marie DeTavernier, age 85, of North Branch passed away November  9, 2013, at her home in the loving care of her family.  She was born July 24, 1928 in North Branch Twp., the daughter of Bernard and Martha (Swoish) Schlaud.  Theresa grew up in North Branch and graduated from North Branch High School in 1948.  On April 22, 1950 she married Frederick DeTavernier at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in North Branch. Theresa and Fred started the family Insurance Business in 1961 in North Branch, and operated it for 18 years before they retired to Florida.  Theresa loved working in her flower gardens, and while she lived in Florida, she enjoyed working in a country store.

   Theresa was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be missed by all.  She is survived by her sons, Robert (Linda) DeTavernier, and Randall DeTavernier; daughters, Mary (Randy) Smith, Lori (Paul) Knox and Michelle (Chuck) Kemp; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, sisters, Trudy (Tony) Donato, Louise Nolan, and Barb Walton, many nephews and nieces.   

   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, daughter Tricia, brothers, Fred, Clarence, Pete, and Duane, and sister Helen.

  Betty J. Armes, age 75 of Fostoria went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Fisher Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center in Mayville. Betty was born May 26, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Lucille (Heart) Martin in Pontiac, MI. Betty grew up in Rochester, MI. On March 1, 1955, she married Vester Armes in Rochester, MI. Vester preceded Betty in death in 2000. Betty was a member of the Fostoria Baptist Church. Betty was a homemaker who was very active in her church and church activities. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by: her sons, Darrell (Debra) Armes of Mt. Morris and Lee Armes of Pontiac; brother, Harold (Margaret) Martin, Jr. of Fostoria; grandchildren, Melissa (Pat) McCurdy of Davison, Stephanie Armes of Lansing, April Spencer of Jackson and Daniel Pond of Mt. Morris; great-grandchildren, Kameo, Montana, Jordon and Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Vester, grandson, Benjamin and sisters, Doris and Ruby.

Edwin Lamb, age 88, of North Branch, (formerly of Bloomfield Twp.), died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Pines of Burton.  Ed was born on March 14, 1925 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of Robert and Doris (Boynton) Lamb. 

On September 20, 1947 Ed married Laura LaDuke in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.  Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He retired from National Twist Drill of Rochester.  Ed was a member of the North Branch American Legion Post #457.  Nothing gave Ed more pleasure than traveling to Las Vegas to gamble and socializing. He enjoyed everything about cars. 

Ed is survived by his son, Don (friend, Theresa Koehler); grandson, Ryan Lamb; Theresa’s two sons, Nik and Alex; and sister, Margurite Kaweck.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Laura on November 2, 2006, and 1 brother, Elliot.

Mary Beth Niemann -Wells, age 56, of North Branch, died Friday, October 18, 2013 at her home in the loving care of her family.  Mary Beth was born November 24, 1956 in Milford, Michigan.  She was the daughter of Philip and Loreen (Snyder) Niemann. 

Mary Beth grew up in Webster, New York and graduated from High School in 1974.  She received her Bachelors Degree from Adrian College.  Mary Beth was a janitor for the North Branch Post Office for the past 6 years.  She attended North Branch Methodist Church and the Unity of Livonia.

Mary Beth enjoyed gardening, painting pictures, singing and dancing.  She especially enjoyed her pets, and spending time with her children.

She is survived by her father, Philip George Niemann of Garden City, MI.; daughter, Jessica Sky Wells; son, Philip Thomas Wells of North Branch; and special friend, Dan Amstutz  of Ann Arbor, MI.; sister, Ruth (Gary) Holdren of Ohio, 1 nephews, 1 niece, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Loreen Niemann; sister, Becky Niemann; and brother, David Niemann.

  Richard “Dick” LaVell age 79 of North Branch, died Friday, October 4, 2013 at Marlette Hospice Residence.  Dick was born July 22, 1934 in Flint, MI., he was the son of Patrick and Dorothy (Bridges) LaVell.  Dick married Delphine Filip on August 29, 1959 at St. Agnes in Flint, MI.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Dick retired from General Motors after 30 years of service.  Dick was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church,  the North Branch Lions Club and the Pee-knuckle Club. Dick enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers. Dick loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.   Left to cherish his memory are: wife Delphine, daughters; Diane (Tom) Watrous of Fla., Cindy LaVell of Hudsonville, MI., and Pam (Jeff) Kihlmire of Alaska, sons; Steve LaVell of CA., Stan (Becky) LaVell of Mayville and Greg (Tammy) LaVell of Marlette, sister; Margaret “Peg” Weber of Shelby Twp.,7 granddaughters, 1 grandson, and 2 great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews.

Marguerite Sari, age 91, of North Branch left this world peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Suncrest Medical Care Facility in Lapeer. Marguerite was born June 28, 1922 in Metamora, MI, the daughter of Thomas and Bernice (Bullis) Hauxwell. She grew up in Deerfield Township and graduated from North Branch in 1941. On March 21, 1942, she married John Sari in North Branch. Marguerite drove school bus for North Branch Schools for many years. She was a member of the North Branch United Methodist Church for 62 years. Marguerite was a charter member of the North Branch Garden Club; as well as being a member of the North Branch Eastern Stars and the North Branch United Methodist Women. Marguerite enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting and spending time with her family.

Marguerite is survived by: daughter, Louise (Leonard) Cowles of North Branch; son, George (Carolyn) Sari of North Branch; brother, Robert Hauxwell of Florida; granddaughter, Ellen (Elton) Fyraj of Albania; 3 step-granddaughters: Rachel (Joe) Mentz-Goss of Colorado, Lauren Mentz of Walled Lake, MI and Melissa (Blake) Prusinski of Kingston; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Marguerite was preceded in death by: her parents, Thomas and Bernice Hauxwell; husband, John in 2001; daughter-in-law, Deborah Sari in 2007; 2 sisters, Mary and Leland Martus and Evelyn and Carl Doherty; and 2 brothers, Bill and Thelma Hauxwell and Leonard and Laura Hauxwell.

 Robert “Robby” Stroup, age 25, of Lapeer, died August 28, 2013 due to an auto accident.  Robby was born on September 4, 1987 in Lapeer, the son of Teresa Matthews and Robin Stroup.  He grew up in Lapeer and attended Lapeer West High School.

Robby was a tree trimmer for E.N.S. Tree Company in Lake Orion for the last 4 years.

Robby enjoyed playing the guitar. He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and work on old cars.

Robby is survived by his parents; Teresa (Bill Vicary) Matthews and Robin (Betty) Stroup; children: Robert Michael Mead and Madelyn Elizabeth Mead and their mother, Elizabeth Mead,  Rhett Jullian Hunter and a soon to be born baby son in October and step-children Vlad Dominyke PenDragen and Amera Nikolette PenDragen and their mother, Nichole Hunter; sisters: Carrie Matthews, Amandalee Matthews, Felicia Sontag and Sara Stamm; brother: Joshua Stamm; grandmother: Vivian Pickett; grandfather, Bill Stroup; special friend: Elmer Stamm; and many nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Robby was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Pickett, Sr. and grandmother, Delores Stroup.

Brent F. Green, age 46, of  Lapeer, died Thursday, August 22, 2013.  Brent was born October 14, 1966, he was the son of Francis and Judith (Shoemaker) Green.  Brent grew up in Waterford and graduated from Waterford Mott in 1984.  He was employed at Skalnek Ford in Lake Orion. Brent enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going snowmobiling, racing his jet ski, playing games on the computer, and he also loved all breeds of dogs.

Brent is survived by his mother Judith Green, and brother Rodney Green of Pontiac.

He was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents.

The family will be present for visitation on Sunday from 4 to 8pm, and Monday from 10 to 11 am, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am., at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery Inc., in Oxford.

  Robert V Bauer, Sr., age 87, of Leesburg, Florida, died Thursday, August  8, 2013 in North Branch, MI.  Robert’s passing was totally unexpected but a Blessed way to pass. He was a man who never met a stranger. Robert was born on October 27, 1925 in Menands, New York, the son of Emory and Anna Gertrude (Adell) Bauer.  Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II in the South Pacific and China, and as a drill instructor during the Korean War. On August 16, 1952, he married Marie Waugh.  Robert retired from the State of Illinois as a Game Farm Manager.  Robert was the owner of Bauer’s Game Ranch in Lapeer County, MI during the late 60’s and early 70’s.  Robert began his game bird career with the State of New York on Howland Island. He was a life member of the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, and the NRA. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marie Bauer; daughter Pam (Mike) Sadler of North Branch, MI; sons; Robert (Mary) Bauer Jr., of Clarkston, MI., and Bruce Bauer of Florida; and sister Adell Hotaling of Massachusetts; brother Bill Bauer of Utah, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Richard, and Emory and sister Adelia.

Robert will be remembered at a Memorial Service in the Memorial Park at The Plantation in Leesburg, FL on Saturday, August 17th at 10 AM. There will be a Committal  Service at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI on Sept. 9, 2013, at 11:00am, with Military Honors.

  Laurel “Samr” Bauman, age 55, died Wednesday, July 23, 2013 at home. Sam was born December 16, 1957 in Glennallen, Alaska to Lyle and Joan (Lamier) Smith. Sam grew up in North Branch and attended school there. Sam drove truck for Robert Trucking for a few years. Sam loved riding her horses. Sam helped others care and train horses. She loved all animals and was always rescuing something. Sam also liked to crochet. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

  Doris Mersino, age 73, of Fostoria formerly of West Branch, died Friday, July 19, 2013 at McLaren-Flint Region Hospital with her family by her side. Doris was born December 22, 1939 in Rochester, MI, the daughter of Harold and Lucille (Hart) Martin. Doris grew up in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1957. On June 2, 1960 she married James Mersino.  Doris was a member of Lake Orion St. Joseph Church. 

Doris enjoyed spending time outdoors picking mushrooms and berries, hunting and fishing.  After retirement she loved to work on her computer, but she especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are: her children, Linda (John) Hawe of Fostoria; Rebecca (Michael) Schmit of Fraser; son, James  Jr. (Candy) Mersino of West Branch; mother-in-law Marge Mersino; sister, Betty Armes of Fostoria; and brother, Harold (Margaret) Martin of Fostoria; grandchildren; Mary Beth, Justin, Melanie, and Lisa; great-grandchildren; Nathan, Kaylee, Adriana, Lucy, and Aubrey; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Beverly Marie Paetsch, age 60, of Waterford, (formerly of North Branch) died July 16, 2013.  Beverly was born December 28, 1952, the daughter of Max and Geneva (Cole) Johnson.  She grew up in the North Branch area, and graduated from North Branch High School in 1971. She attended Baker College and studied and worked in the medical field. Beverly was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  She enjoyed writing, reading her bible, watching movies, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. 

   Left to cherish her memory are: parents, Max and Geneva Johnson of North Branch; husband, George of Lapeer; daughter, Susan (Michael) Arnold of Waterford; sister, Ronda (Kenneth) Wickham of Midland, brothers, Kenneth (RuthAnn) Johnson and Kevin Johnson both of North Branch; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Scott) Swoish of North Branch, 4 grandchildren: Isabella, Joseph, Madeline and Isaac Jr., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Mary Lou Ferrier, age 84 of North Branch passed away Thursday, July 11 2013 at her home, with her family at her side.  Mary Lou was born August 16, 1928 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Chestly and Jean (Morrison) Norton.  She grew up in Fostoria, later she moved to North Branch, and graduated from North Branch High School in 1946.  Mary Lou married Lyle Ferrier on October 23, 1948 at her home in Fostoria. 

   Mary Lou and Lyle developed Washakie Golf Course and RV Resort 40 years ago,  where she was the owner/manager.  She was a lifelong member of North Branch United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Women Society, and the North Branch Eastern Stars.  Mary Lou enjoyed playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, visiting the elderly, cooking daily for the crew at the golf course, and she was a big Tiger Baseball Fan.  

   Left to cherish Mary Lou’s memory are; son, Brian (Cynthia) of North Branch, three grandchildren; James Coulter, Kimberly Johnson, Jennifer Ottenbacher and 6 great-grandchildren.

   She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle, and son Bob Ferrier.

William “Bernie” Willson, age 72, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Saginaw Covenant Hospital. Bernie was born April 20, 1941 in Marlette, MI to John D and Eleanor (Day) Willson. Bernie attended North Branch Schools and graduated in 1959. He married Ruthann Potter in Marlette on May 19, 1962. They lived their married life on the family farm in Clifford, where he was raised. Bernie was a 4th  generation farmer who also worked in a factory.

Bernie is survived by: his wife, Ruthann; children, Lori (Jeff) Golombeski, John D (Shari) Willson, Jeff (Tina) Willson, and Jason (Lisa) Willson; 8 grandchildren, Melissa & Jeffrey Golombeski, Sarah & Laura Willson, Wyatt & Aleah Willson, Travis Barnard and Lexie Buccilli; sisters, Jean (Dean) Baumgartner, Mary (Marv) Taylor, Lynda (Larry) Jackson and several nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents.

  Carolyn “Carrie” Wright, age 52 of Silverwood died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at home with her family. Carrie was born January 6, 1961 in Marlette, MI, the daughter of Lynn and Jeanne (Lowndes) Peacock. Carrie grew up in North Branch and graduated in 1981. On December 23, 1980 she married Robert Joseph Wright in Imlay City. Carrie worked for Metamora Products for 17 years. Carrie enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, shopping, garage saling, crocheting, doing crafts and cooking. She had a special love for all animals. Carrie loved spending time with her family and friends; always making sure coffee was made and cookies were on the table.

Left to cherish her memory: husband, Joe of Silverwood; daughter, MaryLynn (Preston) Sarles of Petersburg, MI; sons, Joshua (fiancé, Heather Hadel) Wright of Lapeer and Benjamin Wright of Silverwood; sister, Jacquelyn of China Twp., MI; brother, Thomas Peacock of Clifford; three grandchildren, Trenton, Infinity & Harmony Sarles; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Carrie is preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, James Edward Wright.

   Mary Ann Goines, age 61 of North Branch died Monday, July 1, 2013 at McLaren Lapeer Region.   Mary Ann was born June 9, 1952 in Lapeer, and was the daughter of Carl and Mary (Hutchinson) Burmeister. 

   Mary Ann graduated from North Branch High School in 1970, and received her degree in phlebotomy from Davenport University.  Mary Ann worked at McLaren Lapeer Region, formerly Lapeer Regional Hospital, for over 15 years.  She enjoyed spending time with, cooking and baking for her grandchildren and family.

   Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Anthony (Michelle) Goines, Brian Goines, and Mark (Mistie) Goines; 6 grandchildren; brothers, Robert Burmeister and Rick (Kris) Burmeister; special friends, Lorie (Keith) Delmage, Beverly (Daryl) Smith, and Samantha Tarabek, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

   She was preceded in death by her parents.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home to help with final expenses. 

   Cremation has taken place and there will be a Service of Remembrance on Sunday, July 21st at 2 PM at the Deerfield Township Hall with Rev. Ron Hutchinson officiating.

   Robert J. “Bud” Slingerlend, age 98, of North Branch, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013.  Bud was born May 4, 1915 in Hinton Twp., MI. to James Irving Slingerlend and Lula Charlotte (Rivenburgh) Slingerlend.  His father was a lumberjack and Bud grew up to love hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.

   Bud receive a BS in chemistry from Central Michigan in 1938.  He worked in the automotive industry as a rubber chemist and retired from Chrysler in 1980.  For many years, Bud owned property on the Black River in Atlanta, MI.  He was a founding member and long time chairman of the Upper Black River Council, and oversaw efforts to restore the resources of the Upper Black River, and manage the watershed exclusively for a brook trout.  As a member of Michigan’s House of Representatives, Bud wrote the Bottle Bill and also introduced the Water Pollution Control Act in 1965.  In addition, Bud introduced a special appropriations bill for $500,000 to transplant salmon into the Great Lakes.  While living in Atlanta, MI., Bud was active in the Montmorency County Conservation Club and also served a term as President of Michigan United Conservation Clubs.  In 2012, Bud was inducted into the Michigan Environmental Hall of Fame. 

   Bud is survived by his wife, Barbara of North Branch; son, Malcolm (Maria) Slingerlend of Englewood, CO.; daughter-in-law, Jan Slingerlend of Battle Creek, MI., 6 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. 

   Bud was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Margaret; son, Glenn Slingerlend and his two sisters; Dorothy and Doris.

   The family will be present for visitation on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 2 to 8pm, and on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from 9 to 10am.  The funeral will be 10:00am, Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Hutchinson officiating.  Burial will be in Altona Cemetery, Big Rapids, MI. 

   Frank Alvarez age 61, of North Branch died Friday, June 21, 2013 at his home in the loving care of his family.  Frank was born October 8, 1951 in  Imlay City, the son of Leonard and Petra  (Vargas) Alvarez. 

   Frank  proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He enjoyed music, playing his guitar and piano and he also had a gift of singing. 

   Frank was a loving, caring and a great father.  He is survived by his daughter Kristie and grandsons; Alex and Nolin.

  He loved both of his children and grandsons very much, and he loved his dearest fiancée, Cheryl and her children; Dennis, Chenelle, and Geni.  He also leaves behind sisters; Phyllis, Ann, Mary (husband Gordon), Sarah (husband Larry) and Rebecca (husband Daniel) and sister-in-law Rosie, and many nephews, nieces and loving friends.   Frank will be greatly missed.

 Frank was preceded in death by his parents, son Jamer, brothers; Savas and Steve Alvarez, sisters; Betty White and Esther Schell.

   There will be a memorial service on Thursday, June 27, 2013, 1030am, at Cross Community Church in Romeo, MI. with Pastor Donnie Lackey officiating. Cremation has taken place.  Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery following his memorial service. 

 Mary Mroz, age 69 of North Branch, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at McLaren Lapeer Region.  Mary was born June 16, 1943 in Detroit, the daughter of Kenneth and Marion (Jefferis) Long. 

   Mary graduated from Regina High School in Detroit, MI.  On August 3, 1963 she married Donald Mroz in Detroit.  She was a teacher’s aid for the North Branch School District for 10 years.  Mary enjoyed reading and collecting Coke-Cola memorabilia and she also enjoyed the beverage. 

   Left to cherish her memory are her husband Donald; daughter Ann Marie Montgomery, (Fiance L Richard Leonard) of Elba;  son Scott (Melissa) Mroz of North Branch, brothers: James (Dolores) Long of Warren,, Hank (Michelle ) Long of Long Lake, MI., 7 grandchildren: Whitney, Haley, Jake, Scott, Rickey and Nicholas and Chloe; great-granddaughters: Ava and Avery; 3 special companions; IB, Roadie and Pepper, many nephews, nieces and cousins.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, son Donnie, and brother Richard Long.

 Rose Marie Jocham, age 80 of North Branch died June 8, 2013 at the Marlette Hospice Residence with her family at her side. Rose Marie was born October 9, 1932 in Detroit, the daughter of  Mary (Jaklevic) and Andrew Muzevic.  After the death of her father Andrew, her mother married John Repic, who lovingly adopted her.

   On October 15, 1955 she married Frank Jocham in North Branch.  Rose Marie proudly served her country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  She was the secretary for Clifford Manufacturing for many years. 

   Rose Marie was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, SS. Peter and Paul Altar Society, and the North Branch American Legion Post #457.

   Rose Marie enjoyed reading, traveling and making trips to casinos. 

   Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Denise (Barry) McLeod of North Branch, son Ronald (Josie) Jocham of Harrison, sister Joann (Richard) LaValley of North Branch, brothers; Andrew (Marie) Repic and John (Shelba) Repic both of North Branch, grandchildren; Ryan (Christina) McLeod and Justin (Brenda) McLeod, 2 great-grandchildren; Mallory and Leland, 3 step-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

   She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Frank.

Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery on July 5, 2013.

  Kenneth Richard Miles, age 91 of North Branch, formerly of the Farwell/Clare areas, died Friday, May 10, 2013 at Marlette Hospice Residence. Ken was born March 15, 1922 in Detroit, MI. He is the son of Charles and Loretta (Warburton) Miles. Ken grew up in Detroit and attended Detroit Cooley High School. Ken married Audrey Hill in Virginia Beach. Audrey preceded Ken in death in 2007. Ken proudly served his country during World War II in the US Navy. Ken was on the U.S.S. LST 61 during the Normandy Invasion.  He was also involved with the invasions in South Africa and Italy. Ken delivered milk for Twin Pines in Oakland County for 20 years. Ken was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. Ken loved spending time with his family. Ken is survived by: sons, Jack (Catherine) Miles of North Branch and Kenneth Michael Miles of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Jason Miles, Evan (Laurel) Miles and Heidi Miles; nephews, Mark Miles and Bruce Miles. Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; brothers, Charles Miles and Robert Miles; and nephew, Rusty Miles.   Velma Schlaud, age 86, of North Branch, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at McLaren Lapeer Region.  Velma was born August 3, 1926 in Lapeer to Jay and Grace (Mabee) Dunlap.  Velma grew up in the Lapeer area and graduated from Lapeer High School. Velma married Leo Schlaud on November 8, 1947 at the Immaculate Conception in Lapeer, MI.  She was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Velma enjoyed working on search word puzzles and reading. She enjoyed dancing. Velma loved listening to music, while she was baking, canning, and cooking, which she was excellent at. Velma loved spending time with her family, they were the joy in her life.   Darlene Kunz, age 71, of North Branch, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the loving care of her family.  Darlene was born July 30, 1941 in Bay City, MI., the daughter of Stanley and Almina (Sequin) Cunningham.  On March 4, 1960 she married Donald Kunz in Romeo, MI.  She enjoyed watching her hummingbirds, working in her flower beds, doing puzzles, canvas work, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren. 

   Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Donald; daughters: Sharon (Edward) Medbery of Mayville, and Sue Vandewarker of Birch Run; sister Daleann Myers, and brother Kenneth Cunningham; 6 grandchildren; Amanda (Norm) Adamic, Jennifer Vandewarker Wood, Brad Vandewarker, Lance Medbery, Brian Medbery and Nathan Vandewarker; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, and 3 brothers.

Ronald Hutchinson officiating.  Burial will be in Dawn Memorial, Elba, Michigan.

   Danilo (Danny) Fantin, age 80, of North Branch, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital.  Dan was born on April 9, 1932, the son of  Natale and Edevige (Miatello) Fantin in Italy. Danny moved to Canada in 1949, and his family moved to the Silverwood area in 1951.  On May 4, 1968  he married Carol Bolge in Detroit, Michigan. 

   Danny was a dairy farmer before he started  working at MK Chambers, as a general maintenance man and truck driver, with 15 years of service.  He also worked at GM Motors for 5 years.  He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was a member of the North Branch Knights of Columbus.  Danny enjoyed fishing, golfing and loved to play jokes on his family and friends. 

   Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Carol; daughter, Cathy (Ben) Laarman of Holland, MI;  sons: Tony (Dawn) Fantin of Lapeer and Robert (Christina) Fantin of Clarkston; sister, Maria Buono of Silverwood; brothers: Bruno of Windsor, Canada, John (Arlene( Fantin of Troy, Carlo (Chris) Fantin of Riley Center, MI.,  Ernest (Pat) Fantin of North Branch and Mario (Linda) Fantin; 7 grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Dora, and brother-in-law, Jimmy.

Peter and Paul Church on Monday, April 8, 2013 from 10 to 11am with the funeral mass to follow at 11:00am.  Interment at Imlay City Township Cemetery.  Fr.  Richard Treml will officiate.

 

Paul Edward Mazik, Jr., age 70, of North Branch lost his battle with cancer on Monday, April 1, 2013 in the loving care of his family.  Paul was born on February 7, 1943 in Greenwich, Connecticut, the son of Paul and Claire (Lasczak ) Mazik, Sr. He grew up in Stamford, Connecticut  where he attended  King School in Stamford, CT.  He also attended  Gettysburg College and University of Bridgeport.

   On December 31, 1995 he married Linda Gough in Harlingen, Texas. Paul and Linda attended St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Lapeer.  He had a love for the manufacturing process… making big machines! Thus, he really enjoyed making big buses. Paul served as Purchasing Director for MCI (Motor Coach Industries) in North Dakota, Eagle Bus in Texas, and Champion Bus in Imlay City.  Most recently Paul owned Modern Building Systems. of Michigan Inc., in Columbiaville.  He was also a member of the Deerfield Township Planning Commission.   Paul enjoyed gardening, hunting, and playing with the neighbor’s skid steers hauling rocks for the landscaping.   

 Left to cherish his memory are: wife Linda; daughter Lisa (Kevin) Kovatch of St Marys, Kansas; sons; Chris (Lynn) Mazik of New Milford, CT., Mike (Megan) Mazik of Dallas, Texas, and Nick Mazik of Budapest, Hungary; 5 grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. 

   He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

   Memorials may be made to the Paradise Animal Rescue at 5380 Lapeer Road, Columbiaville, MI. 48421.

   Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

   The family would like to give a special thank you to Crista, David, Sue, Pat and Chris from Genesys Hospice, whose care made Paul’s last days more comfortable for he and his family.

 

 

  James “Jim” Mazzoline, age 70, of North Branch passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at McLaren-Lapeer Region with his family by his side. Jim was born in Detroit, MI on April 14, 1942, the son of Clement and Maryanne (Dorman) Mazzoline. James grew up in Roseville and graduated from Roseville High School. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy. On August 19, 1995, Jim married Jill Coleman. Jim was a tool and die maker for Damick Enterprise in Rochester Hills. Jim was an active member in the Lapeer F.O.E. #2427 and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing with his grandchildren. Jim is survived by: wife, Jill; daughters, Jennifer Krajniak of North Branch, Julie Pangburn of Capac and Jessica Gemmell of North Branch; sons, John Adams of Ohio, Jason Adams of Port Huron and Josh (fiancé Jolene Nielsen) Gemmell of Port Huron; sisters, Sharon of Deckerville and Judy of Detroit; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Family suggests memorials be directed to the family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be scheduled at a future date.

 Norman C. Stine, age 74, of North Branch  went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.  Norman was born in North Branch Township, MI  on September 4, 1938 to Albert and Eva (Johnston) Stine. On July 26, 1958 he married Charlotte Turner in North Branch. Norman was employed by General Motors in Pontiac, MI.. as a fork truck driver in the Metal Fabrication  Division.  Previous to this, he worked for Zone’s Farm as a general farmhand.  Norman loved the Lord and his church family.  He was an active member of Good News Assembly of God in Marlette, MI. for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, model trains and spending time with his family. Norman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlotte; son, Brian (Paula) of North Branch; sister Louise Keyser of Laingsburg, MI , many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Eva Stine; daughter, Cheryl and sister, Leona Maynard. Memorial donations may be made to the family or to the Good News Assembly of God. Do NOT send any real flowers, family is highly allergic, thank you. Family will be present for visitation on Saturday, April 6th from 11 AM-2 PM at the Good News Assembly of God Church in Marlette, with the funeral service at 2 PM at the church on Saturday with Pastor Doug Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Goodland Township Cemetery.

 

 

Larry Lamphier, age 63, of Brown City passed away March 28, 2013 at home with his family. Larry was born January 29, 1950 in Burnside Township, MI. He was the son of Chester and Joyce (Middleton) Lamphier. Larry graduated from Imlay City High School in 1969. Larry was a member of the Genesee Valley 2 Cylinder Club. He was a lifelong crop farmer who enjoyed fixing tractors, going to tractor shows, camping, going on day trips and spending time with his family. Larry is survived by: Connie Foster; his children, Tammy Blade of New Mexico, Jerry Lamphier of Brown City, Jamie Lamphier of New Mexico, and Amie Hazelwood of Lapeer; sister, Karen (Leo) Carr of Harrison; brothers, Gary (Donna) Lamphier of North Branch and Kim (Leila) Conly of Louisiana; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kevin and his twin brother Jerry.   Alvin “Al” Turner, age 92 of North Branch died Monday, March 25th at the Fisher Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mayville, MI. Alvin was born Ocotober 27, 1920 in North Branch. He is the son of Richard and Mary (Bossard) Turner. Al grew up in and attended school in North Branch. On March 30, 1946 he married Donna TerBush in the North Branch United Methodist Church. Alvin was a dairy farmer most of his life. He enjoyed square dancing and was a workaholic. Al also enjoyed playing Euchre with his friends. After retirement, Alvin helped maintain Maple Grove Cemetery, Fox Cemetery on Brooks Rd., and Burnside Township Cemetery. Alvin took much pride in his work in the cemeteries. Al was also known for his willingness to help friends and neighbors. He loved spending time with his friends and family. Alvin proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II and was a charter member of the North Branch American Legion Post#457. Alvin is survived by: his wife, Donna; children, Gary (Doris) Turner of North Branch, Beverly (Raymond) Strzynski of North Branch, Larry Turner of Brown City and Perry Turner of North Branch; Sister, Mable (Arwood) Thompson of Flint; Sister-in-law, Mae Turner of Westland; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; special friend, Winnie; many nieces and nephews; and many dancing friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 11 siblings, and best friend, Pete. Family suggests memorials to Maple Grove Cemetery Fund. Catherine Bader, age 94, of North Branch died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Marlette Long-Term Care Facility. Catherine was born November 18, 1918 in Johnstown, PA. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna (Papa) Yaklevich. Catherine grew up in Zaluka, Yugoslavia. On February 14, 1942 she married Willard Bader in North Branch. Catherine was a farmer and a homemaker. Catherine was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in North Branch and was a member of the Altar Society. Catherine enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. Catherine is survived by: children, Ruth Ann (Robert) Bostick, Mary Kay (Al) Johnson, and Larry Bader all of North Branch; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Willard Bader; infant son, Paul Bader; and 4 sisters, Rose, Caroline, Margaret and Mary. Family suggests memorials to Marlette Long-Term Care Renovation Fund. Family will be present for visitation on Thursday, March 21st from 5 PM-8 PM with a Rosary at 7:30 PM at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home and on Friday, March 22nd from 1 PM- 2 PM at SS Peter & Paul Church.    Irene L. Boughan, age 89, of North Branch died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at McLaren Lapeer Region.  Irene was born February 6, 1924 in Vassar, MI., the daughter of  Steve and Mary Buda.

  Irene grew up in Vassar and attended Vassar School.  She married John Boughan, they were married over 45 years.  He preceded her in death in 1990. 

   Irene was a homemaker and helped with the family farm.  She volunteered at the North Branch Thrift Shop.  Irene enjoyed gambling, flower gardening, cooking for friends and family, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. 

   She is survived by her sons; David (Kathy) of North Branch and Pat (Doreen) of Clifford, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 2 nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her husband John, son John, 2 sisters, 1 niece and 1 nephew.

   Memorials may be made to the North Branch Thrift Shop.

   There will be a graveside service on Friday, March 15, 2013, 1:00 pm, at the Riverside Cemetery in Vassar with Rev. Somers officiating.

  Billy Joe Miller, age 63 of North Branch died February 18, 2013 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, MI. Billy was born March 28, 1949 in North Branch, MI, the son of George and Mable (Smith) Miller. Billy grew up in North Branch and attended school in North Branch.

Billy proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing and repairing small engines.

Billy is survived by his siblings: Judy (Mark) Champion of  Brown City, Mark (Amy) Miller of Marlette, Gary (Darlene) Miller of Caro and Charles (Kathy) Miller of North Branch; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim.

   Marc Lowe, beloved husband, father and grandfather,age 57, of Fostoria, died  suddenly on Friday, February 15, 2013.Marc was born February 9, 1956 in Lapeer County.  He was the son of Albert and Adrienne (Calkins) Lowe.  Marc grew up in North Branch and attended North Branch Schools and graduated from Jordon College in 1974.  On September 25, 1999 he married Cynthia Sweet in Lapeer.

   Marc retired from GM after 30 years of service.  He enjoyed woodworking, camping, making maple syrup, bow hunting, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.  Marc was very active in his church, The Pineview Mennonite Church. He was  serving on his 2nd term in the church council, he typed the church bulletins, was a worship leader and hymn leader. 

   Left to cherish his memory are his wife Cynthia; daughters: Jennifer (Paul) Pasternak of Fostoria, Sarabeth ( Lance)Wyatt of Oklahoma, Roseanna Lowe of North Branch, and Krista (Dean) Kreiner of North Branch; step-mother, Valda Lowe, stepchildren; Travis Sweet of Midland, Shane (Ashley) Sweet of Standish, and Heather Sweet of Attica; sister, Beth (Mark) Wickson of Sterling Heights; brother, Gary (Rebecca) Lowe of Texas; 13 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Loretta Troyer of Mio, MI., father-in-law, Ray (Linda) Troyer of Mogadore, Ohio,  brothers and sisters-in-law; Douglas (Annette) Troyer of Indiana, Marcia (Rich) Waters of West Branch, MI., Arnold Troyer of Mio, MI., Jeanette (Joseph Jr.) Breaugh, many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 1 sister.

   The family will be present for visitation on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 4 to 8pm at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 10 to 11am at the Pineview Mennonite Church with funeral services to follow.  Burial will be in Pineview Mennonite Cemetery.  Pastor  Roger Hazen will officiate. 

 

 

  Belva Wilson, age 89 of Clifford, died Saturday, February 16, 2013 at McLaren Lapeer Region. Belva was born on January 5, 1924 in Marlette Twp., Michigan.  She was the daughter of James and Effie (Hastings) Grow.  Belva grew up in the Marlette Area and attended Marlette School.  She married William  “Bill”G. Wilson on September 15, 1941.  She attended Clifford Methodist Church.  Belva enjoyed knitting, and she  enjoyed selling Avon for over 25 years.

   Left to cherish her memory are daughters; Betty (James) Richmond of Mio and Janet Wilson (husband Steven Bassett) of Clifford, sons; John (Judy) Wilson of North Branch, Alvin (Sally) Wilson of Tennessee, Donald (Rebecca) Wilson of Clifford and Ronald Wilson of Clifford, sisters; Bessie Davis of Lapeer, Esther Chappel of Silverwood, and  Evelyn Radzwion of North Branch, 15 grandchildren, 16great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, 3 brothers, and 1 grandson.

Stanley J. Czaczkowski, age 79, lifelong resident of North Branch, died Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Marlette United Hospice Residence. Stan was born on September 6, 1933 in North Branch, MI.  He was the son of Boleslaw and Mary (Rzinski) Czaczkowski. Stan grew up in North Branch and attended North Branch Schools.  On January 17, 1966 he married Francine (Collins) Dufort at the North Branch Methodist Church Parsonage.  Stan was a local crop farmer before retirement.  He served on the North Branch Fire Dept. for 30 years and the North Branch Village Council for 10 years. Stan enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Stan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He is survived by his wife Francine, daughter Debbie (Terry) Stevens of North Branch, son Larry (Heidi) Dufort of North Branch; grandchildren: Vicki (Mat) VanCura, Nate (Dana) Stevens, and Jilliann Dufort; great-grandchildren: Blake, Logen and Karson VanCura, Jaime and Alissa Stevens; sister-in-law, Betty Czaczkowski; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and grandchild, Heather Stevens.  Memorials may be made to the Marlette United Hospice Service.

A memorial service will be held  1:00 pm, March 16, 2013 at the North Branch Senior Citizen Center.  There will be a family gathering from 12 to 1 pm.   Pastor Douglas Richardson will officiate.

   LaDell R. Gormley, age 93 of Attica passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Devonshire Retirement Village.  LaDell was born Nov. 28, 1919, she was the daughter of Phillip and Emma (Gaynor) Roach.  She grew up in the North Branch area and attended North Branch School.  On October 5, 1939  LaDell married Maurice Gormley in North Branch.  He preceded her in death in 1980.  She retired from Lapeer Oakdale after 20 years of service.  LaDell volunteered at the North Branch Thrift Shop, St. Vincent D Paul, and was a member of the North Branch Altar Society.  She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, antiques, but mostly spending time with her family and her grandchildren. 

   Left to cherish her memory are son, Thomas (Doris) Gormley; daughters; Judy (Chet) Rozanski, and Sheila (Dan) Bohnett all of Attica, 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her husband, 6 sisters and 1 brother.

    Memorials may be made to the Homeland Hospice or the Devonshire Assistant Living.

The family will be present for visitation on  Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 4 to 8 with a rosary at 7:00pm at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  LaDell will lie in state at SS. Peter and Paul Church on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 10 to 11 am with the funeral mass to follow at 11:00 am.   Fr. Richard Treml will officiate.   

The burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul cemetery, North Branch.

 Raymond “Fred” Mohr, age 76, of Fostoria, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Fischer Sr. Care and Rehab Center, Mayville, MI.  Fred was born October 10, 1936 in Caseville, Michigan.  He was the son of Henry and Wilhelmina (Boehner) Mohr. 

   On July 27, 1957 he married Beth McNish in Millington.  Fred was a lifelong dairy farmer.  Fred and Beth were members of the New Life In Christ Church.  He was on the North Branch School Board, Lapeer Intermediate School Board, member of the Farm Bureau, M.M.P.A., and he was a 4H Leader.  Fred enjoyed watching the Tigers Baseball, farming and spending time with his family and grandchildren. 

   Left to cherish his memory are his wife Beth; daughter Melissa (Robert) Mohr Lawson of Lapeer; sons, Jeff (Barbara) Mohr of Sandusky, Denis Mohr of Macomb Twp., and Richard (Shawn) Mohr of Fostoria; sister Ruth Mohr of Millington; brother Henry (Muriel) Mohr of Otter Lake; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters.

   Memorials may be made to the New Life In Christ Church, or the Fisher Sr. Care and Rehab Center. 

   The family will be present for visitation on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 3 to 8 pm, and Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 10 to 11am.  The funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Rich Twp. Cemetery.  Pastor Joe Schierlinger and Pastor Bill Storm will officiate.
