Elizabeth Catherine Hodgkinson, 94, of North Branch passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 with her family by her side. Elizabeth was born on February 18, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Wasthel) Klaus. Elizabeth grew up on the family farm on Burnside Road in North Branch. She attended North Branch Area Schools from which she graduated high school. Following high school she attended County Normal Schools in Caro, MI perusing an education in teaching. She taught in country schools and later in North Branch elementary schools. On June 3, 1950, she married Frederick Hodgkinson at St. Mary’s Burnside Catholic Church. They were blessed with 3 children and spent 60+ years of married life together until Frederick’s death in March of 2012. Elizabeth was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and altar society. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, playing cards and taking care of her grandchildren.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Patricia (Marvin) Ford, Robert (Laurie) Hodgkinson, Annette (Ronnie) Baker, 8 grandchildren, Shawn Ford, Kimberly (Tom) McQueary, Audrey (Luke) Prowse, Spencer Baker, Deane (Leah) Baker, Cade Baker, Trad (Andrea) Hodgkinson, Tosha Hodgkinson, 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister, Sophie and brother-in-law George Teeple, sister, Virginia Snoblen and brother-in-law Louis Snoblen, brothers, Edward Klaus, Peter and sister-in-law Hedwig Klaus, Joseph Klaus, Harry and sister-in-law Elaine Klaus.
The family will be present for visitation on Sunday, April 14, 2024, 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. On Monday, April 15, 2024 visitation will be 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M., at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Richard Treml will be officiating. Elizabeth will be laid to rest next to her husband at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
